MACHIKO AGANO - Born 1953
Trained initially as a weaver, Machiko Agano now hand knits using large needles, in garter stitch from fishing line, silk and steel wire with the stitches made in an irregular pattern.
The installation is fixed at points attached to the ceiling and floor. Her preference is for materials of neutral or no colour allowing the colour of the surrounding area to suffuse and permeate the work. The wall-mounted work is made from silk organza and bamboo.
As with the knitted installation, the desire is to convey and make visible the delicate feeling of air.
